While enjoying a fire on Anini Beach, on the north shore of Hawaii's island of Kauai, a 22-minute exposure captures the abundance of stars in the night sky, as the palm tree is illuminated by the glow of the flames on the sand. On the lower left side of the image, the point of light is Polaris, the North Star, which all other stars seem to revolve around, from the perspective of the spinning earth. In fact, the stars are "stationary" and it is the earth that spins, with its axis aligned with Polaris. The light breeze of the evening renders the delicate tips of the palm fronds as a blur as they sway in the wind, while the more rigid parts of the tree are rendered sharply.

Adam is a self-taught photographer who started taking pictures on a winter camping trip in northern Minnesota. Now based out of Denver, with frequent travel, his photographic portfolio has been expanded beyond fine art landscapes to include a variety of other subject matter from coast to coast and beyond. His photography continues to be fueled by his love of adventure and exploration, and frequently reflects his unique view of the world around him.
