Artist's Description

Near Los Angeles, on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, a treacherous climb down a precipitous sea cliff allows access the point on the southern end of Golden Cove. Here, despite being surrounded by millions of people within a few dozen miles, complete solitude can be attained. The weathered igneous rocks display cracks and multi-colored mineral veins which have reacted with seawater over the eons to create a bounty of colorful patterns amid the tidepools. For this shot, a tilt-shift lens was used to achieve infinite depth of field (tilt) while allowing for a flawlessly stitched panorama using three shifted images. A graduated neutral density filter was used to balance the exposure of the sky with the foreground rocks. This technique yeilds an extremely high resolution image which looks impressively sharp, even at very large sizes.
