Description
On the Na Pali coast of Hawai'i's island of Kaua'i, the rugged Kalalau Valley is perhaps the most scenic location on the island. The valley itself is inaccessible to cars, and can only be reached by sea kayak or the treacherous Kalalau Trail. The valley is frequently obscured by clouds, which contribute to the nearly 500 inches of rain per year on nearby Mount Wai'ale'ale, making it the rainiest spot on Earth, and contributing to the lush green foliage. In this view, a fortunate break in the clouds allows a clear view of the valley beyond the trees at the cliff's edge, with the Pacific ocean in the distance. in this high-resolution shot.
